A conveyor belt is made up of two drums and a continuous belt that make up a continuous transport system. Generally, its operation consists of a dragging of the belt thanks to the friction of its drums and a motor. The band is mounted on platforms of variable dimensions according to the application, can have different types of accessories depending on its functionality.
Its use depends on the sector in which we are. Within the mining and construction industry, the belt conveyor is probably the most widely used equipment for the transport and handling of bulk materials. SOTECMA designs, manufactures and supplies a wide range of belt conveyors specially adapted for each type of material to be handled.
Main components
- The band: It can have a variable composition, but one of the main materials used is the rubberized textil. These materials are mainly derived from rubber. We can find plastic modular belts, made of polyester, PVC, polyamide, acetal, etc. Like material, belts can vary in width and thickness, depending on load capacity. In the same way, the band can be manufactured with different qualities and surfaces, such as, a band with a relief adapted to prevent the goods being transported from sliding or rolling.
- Drums and drive:
Drums: The structure is divided into a certain number of drums and each one has a different function. The drive drum generates the movement of the belt and is connected to a drive. The return drum will cause the belt to return to the top. Meanwhile, the inflection drums, located in the lower part at the exit of the driving drum and at the entrance of the return drum, will cause a change in the angle of exit and entry to these.
Another option is for the diverter drums to be located under the belt, in charge of directing the belt towards the tension drum to maintain correct belt tension.
It depends on the type of belt conveyor, we can find different drums with different functions.
Drive: Its location will depend on that of the driving drum. You can find motorization in head or front and central. Its power and characteristics will depend on the type of conveyor belt.
- Structure: Like the belt, drive or drums, it will depend on the type of belt and its use. It is mainly made up of a metallic structure. All the main elements of the belt are mounted and coupled on the structure, as well as the systems and accessories that provide reliability to the complete system. A belt structure must be resistant, it must provide reliability and it must have a durability to the system, allowing the optimal operation of the conveyor belt in its different environmental conditions of use.
Types of conveyor belts
We supply different types of industrial conveyor belts according to the type of application, the installation or the material to be handled. At SOTECMA, we manufacture:
- Conveyors with lattice frame.
- Folded sheet conveyors.
- Extra-flat conveyors with U-frame.
For all of them, we can carry out a custom manufacturing that adapts to any length, bandwidth and transport capacity that suits your needs.

Advantages
Among the main advantages of conveyor belts we find:
- Possibility of transporting materials over a long distance.
- Great adaptation to the terrain.
- They have a great transport capacity.
- They allow transporting a wide variety of materials.
- Possibility of loading and unloading at any point along the route.
- It can be scrolled.
- It does not alter the transported product.
- Increase the amount of production.
In SOTECMA you can find the different types of conveyor belts, depending on their structure, functionality, auxiliary elements, etc. They fulfill a large number of necessary functions in the industrial and mining sector, among many others.
